在句子中起名词作用的从句叫名词性从句，包括主语从句、宾语从句、表语从句和同位语从句。
一、 主语从句
在句子中充当主语的从句叫主语从句，通常由从属连词(that, whether)和连接代词(what, who, which, whatever, whoever)以及连接副词(how, when, where, why)等词引导。
1. that在句中无实际意义, 只起连接作用; 连接代词和连接副词在句中既保留自己的疑问含义又起连接作用, 在从句中充当从句的成分。
That she was chosen made us very happy.
What he wants to tell us is not clear.
2. 为避免头重脚轻，常用形式主语it放于句首，而把主语从句置于句末。
It is still a question whether she will come or not.
以下结构常用it作形式主语：
It turned out that… (结果是……)
It has been found that… (已经发现……)
It has been proved that… (已经证明……)
It happened／occurred that… (恰好……)
二、宾语从句
在句子中充当宾语的从句叫宾语从句。常见连接词有that, whether, if, who, what, whose, which, when, where, how, why等。
1. 在demand，order，suggest， insist, desire, demand, request等表示要求、命令、建议、决定等意义的动词后，宾语从句中谓语常用“(should)+ 动词原形”。
I insist that she (should) do her work alone.
2. 形式宾语：谓语动词consider，find，make，regard，see，take，think等后接“宾语从句+宾语补足语”时，用it作形式宾语，把宾语从句置于宾语补足语之后。
We find it necessary that we practice speaking English every day.
三、表语从句
在句中作表语的从句叫表语从句。表语从句位于系动词后，常用that和wh-疑问词引导，也可用as if引导。其基本结构为“主语+系动词+从句”。
The fact is that we have lost the game.
That is why he didn’t come to the meeting.
It looks as if it is going to rain.
四、 同位语从句
同位语从句说明其前面的名词的具体内容，常由that引导，常带有同位语从句的名词有advice, demand, doubt, fact, hope, idea, information, message, news, order等。
The news that we won the game is exciting.
He presented evidence that his article was based on original research.
同位语从句和定语从句的区别：
I hold the belief that where there is a will, there is a way. (同位语从句，that在从句中不充当句子成分)
The letter that I received yesterday was from my sister. (定语从句，that在从句中充当宾语)
