立式车床主轴轴线垂直于水平面、工件安装在水平回转工作台上的车床，简称立车。立车通常用来加工直径和重量比较大，或在卧式车床上难于安装的工件（见彩图）。为满足加工大型工件的需要，1890年在美国出现了立式车床。20世纪30年代，德国制造出加工直径为25.5米的超重型立式车床，可加工的最大工件重达350吨,机床自身重1850吨。苏联也制造过加工直径26米的立式车床。立式车床有单柱式（图1）和双柱式两种。中小型立车多为单柱式。大型立车主要是双柱式，有两个垂直刀架。工件装夹在立车的工作台上，并由工作台带动作旋转的主运动，由垂直刀架和侧刀架实现进给运动，两者都可沿相应的导轨作垂直方向和水平方向进给。这两种立车的垂直刀架通常都带有可安装几组刀具的转塔，这样就相当于立式的转塔车床。某些立车的立柱或工作?ㄒ部勺龀煽梢贫模岳┐蠹庸ぶ本斗段А?
