杂草杂草weed目的作物以外的，妨碍和干扰人类生产和生活环境的各种植物类群。主要为草本植物，也包括部分小灌木、蕨类及藻类。全世界约有杂草8000种，与农业生产有关的主要只有250种。中国约有杂草119科1200种。除可按植物学方法分类外还可按其对水分的适应性分为水生、沼生、湿生和旱生，按化学防除的需要分为禾草、莎草和阔叶草，此外还可根据杂草的营养类型、生长习性和繁殖方式等进行分类。其生物学特性表现为：传播方式多，繁殖与再生力强，生活周期一般都比作物短，成熟的种子随熟随落，抗逆性强，光合作用效益高等。农田杂草的主要为害为：与作物争夺养料、水分、阳光和空间，妨碍田间通风透光，增加局部气候温度，有些则是病虫中间寄主，促进病虫害发生；寄生性杂草直接从作物体内吸收养分，从而降低作物的产量和品质。此外，有的杂草的种子或花粉含有毒素，能使人畜中毒。防除杂草的方法有：①植物检疫。对国内外各地区间调运的种子和苗木进行检查处理，防止新的外来杂草传播。②人工除草。③机械除草。④物理除草。用水、光、热等物理因子除草。⑤化学除草。用除草剂除草而不伤害作物。其选择性是根据除草剂对作物、杂草的高矮和根系深浅不同的“位差”、种子萌发先后和生育期不同的时差、植物组织结构、形态及其抗药性的差异等特性而实现。⑥生物除草、利用昆虫、禽畜、病原微生物和竞争力强的置换植物及其代谢产物防除杂草。⑦生态除草。即创造有利于作物生长而不利于杂草繁生的生态环境除草。⑧综合防除。运用各种措施间的互补和协调作用，高效而稳定防除杂草。
