粉彩瓷器创烧于康熙晚期，成熟于雍正、乾隆两代。粉彩在彩绘中以渲染表现明暗，使每一种颜色都有不同层次的变化。《饮流斋说瓷》中说“软彩又名粉彩，谓彩色稍淡，有粉匀之也，硬彩华贵而深凝，粉彩艳丽而清逸。”粉彩的施绘工艺是先用含砷的“玻璃白”打底；彩料有用芸香油调合。乾隆时的清宫档案对粉彩则称之为“洋彩”。粉彩是在彩绘时搀加一种白色的彩料“玻璃白”。“玻璃白”具有乳浊效果，画的图案可发挥渲染技法的特性，呈现一种粉润的感觉，景德镇窑在五彩的基础上及“珐琅彩”的影响下创制成功的又一种彩瓷。粉彩其作法是用经过“玻璃白”粉化的各种彩料，在烧成的白釉瓷器的釉面上绘画，经第二次炉火烧烤而成。

Color materials can be blended with sesame oil. The Qing dynasty palace archives at Ganlong were called "foreign color" for pastel. Pastel is to add a white color material "glass white" when painting. "Glass White" has opacifying effect. The painted pattern can give full play to the characteristics of rendering techniques and present a feeling of powder embellishment. Jingdezhen kiln has successfully created another kind of colored porcelain on the basis of colorful colors and under the influence of "enamel color". Pastel is made by painting on the glaze of white glazed porcelain with various colored materials that have been powdered by "glass white" and then baking by a second fire.
