Background
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)is the focus of the political process to address Climate Change. The UNFCCC secretariat supports the Convention, its Kyoto Protocol and the historic Paris Agreement through a range of activities, including substantive and organizational support to meetings of the Parties and the implementation of commitments. It is a dynamic organization working in a politically challenging environment to help resolve one of the defining environmental issues of our time.
The Finance, Technology and Capacity-building (FTC) programme supports the mobilization of financial resources, international cooperation on technology development and transfer, and capacity-building to enable enhanced action on climate change. The programme provides support to the intergovernmental negotiations in these three thematic areas, including support to the work of several constituted bodies established under the UNFCCC.
Objectives of the internship assignment
The internship post is located in the Capacity-building sub-programme within the FTC programme. The intern will provide support to Knowledge and information management of the Capacity building portal:
The particular functions are:
The intern will perform a range of activities to support the enhancement of the Capacity-building portal, including:
• Analyze the current information available in the Capacity-building portal;
• Provide a summary of the current contents of the Capacity-building portal;
• Provide a compilation of each activity/initiatives/of the subprogram in details with tags and description;
• Maintain and update contents of the capacity-building portal, webpages, SharePoint and other internal >
• Explore possible tools and systems to enhance the subprogramme’s knowledge and information management.
Timeframe
The internship is for a period of four months within the period 20 September to 20 January . The exact period will be determined based on the availability of the intern and the needs of the sub-programme. There is the possibility of an extension up to a maximum of six months, subject to the intern’s satisfactory performance and availability and on-going university enrolment.
Minimum requirements
Candidates must have completed an undergraduate degree and be enrolled in a Master"s or doctorate programme at a recognized university at the time of application and for the duration of the internship. Candidates must be fluent in English (both oral and written); demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills; have good knowledge and understanding in data collection and research; be able to work in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment. Studies in the fields ofeconomics andfinance, sustainable development, international relations and communicationwith a focus on climate change and environment are preferred. Skills in infographics, photography and videography, communications including social media are an advantage.
Internship conditions
UNFCCC secretariat internships are not remunerated.The selected intern will be responsible for all costs before, during and after the internship assignment. Interns of the UNFCCC secretariat are not considered to be staff members. The selected intern will work on a full-time basis (40 hours per week) at the UNFCCC premises in Bonn, Germany.
