多义短语的用法
20. turn up开大，调高，出现，露面，来到
异同之处：turn up表示“调高”时，后面要跟表示电视、收音机或者音量之类的名词作宾语，表示“出现，露面，来到”时，一般要单独使用，后面不跟任何宾语。
例1：They’ll have to turn up in greater numbers if they want a voice on campus issues. (6月六级)
如果他们想对校园问题有发言权，他们不得不提高数量。
结构分析：They是主语，will have to turn up是谓语，in greater numbers是介词词组作状语，if引导状语从句，they是主语，want是谓语，a voice是宾语，on campus issues是介词词组作状语。
例2：The thief didn’t turn up until eight o’clock.
小偷直到8点才出现。
结构分析：The thief是主语，didn’t turn up是动词词组作谓语， until eight o’clock是时间状语。
2003作业：1.句子结构、时态等分析；2.将英文译成中文。短语：1. as supposed to按照……
用法：as supposed to是as it was(is) supposed to的省略形式，是为了避免重复。
例句1：Although the factory director is not in, all the workers should do as supposed to.
语法点：although与though用法相近，都引导让步状语从句。
