赵九章(1907～1968)中国空间物理学家、地球物理学家和气象学家。浙江吴兴县人，1907年10月15日生于河南开封。1968年10月26日卒于北京。1933年毕业于清华大学物理系，1935年赴德国攻读气象，1938年获德国柏林大学博士学位。1939年回国后，曾任西南联合大学教授，中央研究院气象研究所所长。中华人民共和国成立后，曾任中国科学院地球物理研究所所长，1956年被推选为科学院地学部学部委员，并被选为中国气象学会理事长和中国地球物理学会理事长。赵九章为在中国发展气象学、地球物理学和空间物理学做了许多重要的贡献。他开创了中国气球探空的实验研究和动力气象学的理论研究工作。50年代初期,他参加了建立中国天气分析预报中心的工作,对发展天气预报工作的理论研究起到了积极的推动作用。他在研究信风带动力学的问题时，首先提出了西风带中长波存在着不稳定的现象。他在早期从事气象学研究的同时，就注意到对地球物理学各分支学科──地磁学、地震学、物理探矿、电离层物理学、大气光学和海洋学等进行综合研究的重要性，他开创了臭氧层、海浪预告、气辉等的研究工作并积极组织了电离层和地磁等的研究工作。1957年第一颗人造地球卫星上天以后,为了发展中国的空间事业,他积极倡导发射中国的人造地球卫星，并在中国开创了利用探空火箭和人造地球卫星进行高空探测的研究工作，组建了空间科学技术队伍，为中国在磁层、宇宙线、电离层、高层大气、短波电磁辐射和光化学(包括X射线、远紫外和红外的空间探测) 等空间科学方面的研究工作奠定了基础。60年代初期，他对当时空间物理学的主要课题──磁暴理论十分重视，组织科研人员开展了对地球辐射带、太阳风、冲击波、日地关系和空间等离子体模拟实验等理论和实验的研究工作，取得了一系列有意义的成果。他和他领导的研究组发表了《地磁扰动期间史笃默搏获区的变化》和《带电粒子穿入地磁场的一种机制》等19篇论文。他主编和撰写的《高空大气物理学》上册(1965)是中国第一部空间物理学方面的系统论著。赵九章十分重视科研人材的培养。他在中国科学技术大学创办了地球物理系；在地球物理研究所和北京大学亲自指导研究生，并经常在研究人员中选拔优秀者给以多种途径的培训。这些人员和学生大多数都已成为空间物理各个分支学科的研究骨干力量。
