八达岭铁路隧道位于中国北京市延庆县境内,在京包铁路北京至张家口段(原称京张铁路)的青龙桥车站附近,从长城之下穿越燕山山脉八达岭的单线铁路隧道,是中国自力修建的第一座越岭铁路隧道。八达岭铁路隧道由中国杰出的工程师詹天佑亲自规划督造。1907年开工,1908年竣工,工期仅用18个月。隧道在直线线路上,全长1091米。北京端隧道外线路坡度为32.3‰,隧道内线路最大坡度为21.5‰。这座隧道穿过的岩层主要为石质较坚硬的片麻岩。此外,还有风化呈破碎和泥质状态的角闪岩、页岩、砂岩等。施工时曾遇地下水干扰。为增加工作面,在隧道中部设置一座深约25米的竖井。井上建有通风楼,以供通车后排烟和通风用。隧道衬砌的拱圈采用预制混凝土砖砌筑,边墙用混凝土就地灌筑,隧道底部用厚约10厘米的石灰三合土铺筑。这座隧道曾数次遭受战争破坏,勉强修复通车。还长期存在净空不足、排水不畅等问题。1968年曾对它进行大修改造,采取的措施主要是:降低轨道标高;用混凝土封闭基底;加深和改造双侧排水沟;换铺预应力混凝土宽枕和焊接长钢轨。大修改造后,运营条件有所改善。但由于扩建较难,净空仍未达到铁路隧道建筑限界标准的要求。(见彩图)
